Nikobuchi Waterfall

But more than its spectacular visual appeal, the spot is also steeped in local legend. According to Japanese folklore, the waters are the dwelling place of a water god, who manifests itself in the form of a giant mythical snake. As the site is considered sacred by residents, visitors are kindly reminded to honour the sanctity of Nikobuchi Waterfall by refraining from swimming and embracing the tranquil ambiance.
