WELLNESS: In Tokyo’s Hippest New Hotel

Tucked away in a Shibuya backstreet minutes from hipster heartland Cat Street, TRUNK (HOTEL) is a welcome addition to Tokyo’s growing clutch of design-led boutique hotels. Opening its doors in May this year, TRUNK is perfectly placed to attract the global creative crowd and those in search of more than just a bed for the night. Whilst the contemporary Japanese interiors and well-appointed bedrooms are a draw, it’s the hyper-local concept which really sets the hotel apart, doing all it can to connect guests with the surrounding culture.

Serving great coffee by day and craft cocktails by night, the relaxed atmosphere of TRUNK’s spacious lounge draws a steady stream of hip Tokyoites to mingle with hotel guests. Four large event rooms, a pop-up space and even an architecturally designed chapel ensures the hotel is never without an event to help lift the atmosphere, and an on-site convenience store allows guests to shop local product – from Tokyo wine to freshly made snacks from neighbourhood eateries and locally crafted design items.

Book your stay via the hotel website. Or if the rooms are out of reach, be sure to drop by for a bite to eat or an aptly named ‘Getting Trunk’ cocktail.
