WELLNESS: At Japan’s Most Stylish Hot Spring Resort

With mountainous terrain and an abundance of hot springs tempting visitors to the southern island of Kyushu, Oita Prefecture is known as the onsen capital of Japan. Whilst there are hundreds of onsen in the area to choose from, those wanting to test the region’s restorative waters can now do so in style – at Oita’s newest hot spring resort Kur Park Nagayu.

Opening for business last June, the retreat consists of a series of contemporary hot spring baths, restaurants and accommodation, all designed by renowned architect Shigeru Ban. Built along the banks of the Seri River, each onsen is constructed using natural materials and comes with breathtaking mountain views that quickly immerse visitors in the surrounding landscape.
