Surrounded by thick forest in the heart of Tokyo, Meiji Shrine feels very far from the bustling crowds and neon-lit streets of nearby Shibuya. But, take a detour under one of the towering torii gates that mark the entrance to the temple grounds and you’ll soon be witness to a myriad of local traditions – from blessings and prayers to weddings and seasonal matsuri.
