CRAFT: Kyotographie, whilst it’s still in town

For a month each year, Japan’s largest international photography festival takes over Japan’s old capital, and visitors to Kyoto before the 13th of May will be lucky enough to catch Kyotographie, before it leaves town for another year.

2018 marks the sixth edition of the festival which grows organically year on year. Fifteen exhibitions housed in hidden corners, from tranquil temples to industrial estates, lead visitors on an unconventional tour of the city. Not to be missed are Yukio Nakagawa’s avant-garde flowers set in the picturesque Ryosokuin temple, and 24-year-old rising-star Izumi Miyazaki’s humorous self-portraits filling an entire building in the heart of the Gion district.
