WELLNESS: Modern Mindfulness

Deep in the Myōshinji Temple complex to the north-west
of Kyoto, Rev. Takafumi Kawakami is bringing ancient Buddhist practices into
the 21st century by teaching his modern approach to Zen meditation.
The forward-thinking deputy-priest at historic Shunkoin Temple developed a unique east-meets-west perspective on mindfulness after spending
eight years studying in America.

Drawing on mindful practices inherent in
Japanese culture, he now uses his progressive approach to meditation to help
equip others with techniques designed to combat the stresses of modern life.
