Opening this week in Shibuya, Tokyo, a capsule hotel aimed specifically at millennials is the latest to join the wave of hotels reinventing Japan’s famous micro-lodgings. No longer the preserve of businessmen and budget travellers, The Millennials takes the lead from designer capsule pioneers Nine Hours, reimagining small-space stopovers with modern travellers in mind.

Slotting into the lifestyles of globe-trotting millennials, the hotel is equipped with up-to-the-minute technology and focuses on communal spaces for socialising and co-working. Guests are invited to cook together, dine together and work together, before retiring to their perfectly designed ‘S Mart Pod’, complete with extra-wide reclining bed, suitcase storage and even an 80” cinema screen – all controlled from an easy-to-use app. From ¥5600 a night, head to the hotel website to book your stay.
