CRAFT: Japan’s cult clothing: Moonstar

MoonStar have been making shoes in Kurume, on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, since 1873. The company started life as a manufacturer of traditional Jika-Tabi – utilitarian rubber-soled canvas boots featuring a unique split toe. Still worn today by farmers and workmen, over 100 years of manufacturing hard-wearing ‘Tabi’ boots have provided a rich foundation to build one of Japan’s best-loved shoe brands. With uncompromising attention to form, function and tradition, MoonStar have developed a concise line of contemporary footwear that make use of one-of-a-kind manufacturing methods and skilled hand finishing.

Striking the perfect balance between style and comfort, a pair of MoonStar plimsolls are essential wearing for any Japan enthusiast.
