Japan’s love of all things anime runs deep. From Minions to Miffy, get your kawaii kicks at one of Tokyo’s top ten cartoon cafes – food (almost) too cute to eat (づ｡◕ ‿‿◕｡)づ
1. Peanuts Café
Next to the water in hip Nakameguro, dine with Snoopy, Charlie Brown and friends in Tokyo’s coolest cartoon cafe. Peanuts Cafe is heaven for fans, with a subtly themed menu (think Snoopy-embossed burger buns) and Tokyo’s most refined selection of cartoon merchandise.

2. Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory
Tucked away in the sleepy neighbourhood of Daita, Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory draws fans from far and wide, desperate to get their hands on the café’s famous cute cream puffs. Shaped like the leading character from Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbour Totoro, choose from an array of flavoured fillings, though make sure you start with the café’s signature flavour – Original Custard.

3. Sailor Moon x My Melody Candy Parlour
Picking up where last year’s 25th anniversary celebrations left off, Sailor Moon x My Melody Candy Parlour is Japan’s latest tribute to the cult 90s cartoon. A must for manga-fans everywhere, the newest Sailor Moon pop-up will be hosted by character-café regulars, The Guest, and promises to fulfil all your Sailor Moon dreams with an array of candy-coloured cartoon-topped treats.

4. Pompompurin Café
Sanrio’s beret-toting pudding-eating dog is one of Japan’s best-loved cartoon characters, so it’s only fitting Pompompurin should have his very own kawaii café in the heart of Tokyo. Tuck into sugary treats alongside die-hard fans in Tokyo’s Harajuku district.

5. Café de Miki
No cartoon-café list would be complete without an eatery hosted by Japan’s favourite feline. Café de Miki Tokyo Bay’s Diver City shopping mall is a mecca for Hello Kitty fans everywhere. In a British-themed tea room, fans are invited to sip a cup of Earl Grey whilst tucking into a Hello Kitty scone laden with jam and cream.

6. Moomin House Café
No Tokyo diner need ever felt lonely again after the opening of Sumida district’s Moomin House Café, where giant stuffed Moomin are on-call as diner companions. Conversation may be limited but the food is delicious, with an array of Scandinavian treats for fans of Finland’s best-loved cartoon.

7. Café Mugiwara Boushi
Studio Ghibli fans mustn’t leave Tokyo without a trip to Café Mugiwara Boushi at the Ghibli Museum. Paradise for fans of Kiki’s Delivery Service, Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns.. Café Mugiwara Boushi is the wierd and wonderful world of Ghibli, made edible.

8. Shirokuma Café
It’s only fitting that cartoon café proprietor Shirokuma-san should own his own real-life eatery. Ideal for families, Shibuya’s Shirokuma Café not only serves up ultra-cute food, but there’s a dedicated area for souvenir photos and a playroom designed to entertain the kids whilst the grown-ups tuck into their dishes topped with polar bears, pandas and penguins.

9. Pokemon Café
Eagerly anticipated, Japan’s first Pokémon café is set to open for business next month in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi district. Following a string of pop-up cafés, the (officially termed) Pokémon Center Tokyo DX will be Pokémon’s first permanent restaurant – set to delight fans with character-themed dishes and limited edition merchandise.
10. The Guest Café and Diner
Whilst Tokyo is permanent home to a host of cartoon cafés, some of the best (and certainly most hyped) are those open for only a few weeks. Here today and gone tomorrow, The Guest Café and Diner, at Shibuya PARCO specialises in hosting temporary cartoon-themed cafés.
