Located in the heart of Takamatsu, Ritsurin Garden is considered a Special Place of Scenic Beauty according to the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs. Dating back 400 years, the garden complex was originally crafted for the local daimyo (feudal lords) of the Edo period.
Spanning 75 acres, the garden is adorned with 1,400 meticulously manicured pine trees, famed for their beautiful bonsai-like appearance. It also features six placid ponds and thirteen landscaped hills, all set against the backdrop of Mt. Shiun.
For those seeking an adventure steeped in history and natural beauty, Ritsurin Garden offers an unforgettable experience. As you wander the winding pathways, discover hidden tea houses, and admire the artistry of stone bridges gracefully arching over reflective waters. And when it’s time to sit back and relax, enjoy a traditional Japanese wooden boat ride where you can take in the beautiful views of the garden.
