Kumano Brushes

In the small town of Kumano, Mie Prefecture, a handful of traditional craftsmen have been producing Japan’s entire supply of calligraphy brushes for almost 200 years. Made entirely by hand using a labour-intensive twelve-step process, master craftsmen such as Tokuzen Sanemori produce up to 45 brushes a day, drawing on years of careful training to craft some of the world’s best brushes.
